LittleBook: Why did you start a band??
Big Blue Whale:
Because I've felt more from music than I ever have from looking at a painting or watching a dance recital. Plus I can't dance.

LB: How did you find each other??
BBW:
We slept in bunk beds, so he looked up and I looked down.

LB: What's your most memorable moment as a band??
BBW:
Ashley breaking his foot on the way to a gig and still destroying the drums at the show. Killer.

LB: Where do you practice?
BBW:
Turk & Taylor, crack central

LB: What do you drink at practice?
BBW: Mostly Oolong Tea and Jim Beam

LB: What do you do at practice when you’re not practicing?
BBW:
Listen to the other bands around us and always be astonished by humans' capacity for creativity. Oh, and play badminton across the bass amp.

LB: What's the hardest thing about being a band in 2009?
BBW: 2009? I thought it was 2012. Isn't this the eve of destruction?
Seriously, the hardest thing is witnessing some other bands' performance style - if you're only going to stand around on stage without moving at all, just buy the record.

LB: What do you want people to know about your band, what are you doing next??
BBW:
Our band is body-moving rock. Next we hope to move your body in your home with our upcoming 7" record.

LB: What's up with your CD where can I get it, where did you record it??
BBW:
When we get the 7" from the presser's in a couple of weeks, we'll sell it to you at our shows or through bigbluewhale2010@yahoo.com. We'll also make it available for free download with a couple of bonus songs through our site.

LB: Favorite San Francisco Band or a memorable show??
BBW: Disastroid. Those guys are insane.

LB: Favorite venue to Play??
BBW:
Definitely the Warfield.

LB: Have you played the Annie's Social Club before?
BBW:
Yes

LB: What do you like it?
BBW:
What do I like it? Let me count the ways.... loud music, good beer, always cool crowds, and just the right amount/lack of light. Plus there's a hidden room in the back.

LB: Do any of the members ever take their shirts off at a show or at practice??
BBW:
Only when we are practicing at the commune. Which rocks.

LB: Who's the smelliest member after a sweaty gig??
BBW:
I prefer not to talk about 'smelly members.' Fewer girls come to the shows once that discussion starts.

LB: Favorite pre / post show; food, indulgence or ritual??
BBW:
One must have a shot of brown liquor immediately before heading on stage. It dulls the pain of any broken bones and still allows you to climb the rafters during the guitar solo.

LB: Where do you think live music is heading??
BBW:
Recently it seems there's been a big resurgence of people checking out live music. This is great. In an era where we are increasingly removed from personal interaction, I love seeing people congregate to experience a shared collective show. I think that live music is an integral part of the human story, and I hope people continue to express themselves in that way. Also, as good gear becomes less expensive for both the players and the venues, I think the sound at most clubs is getting better and better. I hope this will allow bands to create more and more complex arrangements while still being suitable for live performance.

LB: How do you feel about people downloading your songs for free , do you offer free downloads??
BBW:
I think this about downloading: if you download free music from any band, I am okay with that, as long as YOU GO SEE THEM PLAY ANY TIME THEY ARE IN TOWN. This way music is spread more and more, and live shows become more and more of a communal event, from the biggest to the smallest acts.
